East Ashington LIFE moves to the heart of the community

East Ashington LIFE (Local Initiative for Everyone) is a three tiered partnership involving Wansbeck District Council, representatives of East Ashington Community and Cheviot Housing Association. Representatives from the partnership are moving into an office in the Moorhouse Estate, with Neighbourhood Enforcement Team who deal with vandalism, anti-social behaviour, graffiti and car crime.

Having already established a draft masterplan for the area following initial consultation with the community, the aim of East Ashington Life is to carry out more detailed consultation over the coming months to draw up in depth plans to revitalise the area with new housing developments, leisure facilities and improved local services.

East Ashington Life took the decision to move into its new location to ensure local residents have every opportunity to influence change.

It means that the LIFE team are easily accessible to the community and are ideally placed to work with local people to assess the area and identify its needs.

Tom Rees, community support officer for East Ashington Life who will be based in the office, said: "We want people to take advantage of our base in the community and let us know their opinions so we can work together to create an area that people will be proud of. Please give us a call to arrange a time to visit us or if preferred we will visit people at home or at their community base."

People can also see the draft master plan for the area in the office and let East Ashington Life know what they think of it. Andrea Malcolm, Manager at East Ashington Life who will also be based in the new office added: "It is important to us that local people are involved every step of the way and by having a presence in the community we hope to make it as easy as possible for people to do this.

"Consultation with East Ashington residents has been essential right from the beginning and we want to continue to build this relationship to be confident that we are delivering what people want."
